How Does Infrared Light Therapy Work?
Nitric oxide is the key to the dramatic improvements that infrared light therapy provides. This short-lived gas is crucial to the health of your arteries. Infrared energy prompts the release of nitric oxide, which enhances blood flow in the immediate vicinity.
This boost in blood flow brings oxygen and nutrients to injured, aching tissues, resulting in fast healing. It also reduces pain and inflammation.
What Is a Typical Infrared Light Therapy Session Like?
Treatment with infrared light therapy is simple and painless. Our clinic uses two different units. The first is the Horizon Light Therapy Unit with Dual Infrared and Red Wavelengths by Hill Therapeutics. The second are paddles, each containing multiple infrared lights, are placed directly on the skin over the area of pain or injury. Energy from the lights penetrates beneath the skin and is absorbed by deep tissues.
With the Horizon treatment ranges from 10-30 min. With the paddles, treatment is anywhere from 20-45 min. After treatment, blood flow is enhanced by 400 percent, and this boost in local circulation persists for several hours after the pads are removed. The most dramatic benefits of infrared light therapy are achieved with multiple treatment sessions.
